NY Fashion Week Just Got A New Owner

While the holidays are on our minds 24/7 lately, for any editor, designer, or buyer, the start of a new year means one thing: the countdown to New York Fashion Week. And, though the next batch of presentations comes just a few weeks into 2014, as of right now, many questions about the event remain unanswered. As reported by WWD today, the recent acquisition of IMG — who previously owned and ran Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week — by William Morris Endeavor and Silver Lake Partners is just one hint at the possibility of shifts to the program.
Fashion Week's new parents have not given a formal statement about their plans regarding the week's whirlwind of the events, but other adjustments are already in place. It was only a couple of weeks ago that IMG announced its intention to make the industry affair more exclusive (read: fewer bloggers). Additionally, as of last week, CFDA teamed up with the keeper of the fashion calendar, Ruth Finley, to help maintain balance in the schedule of events (read: not having to decide between two shows taking place at the same time).
However, with this new acquisition potentially bringing the biggest changes to NYFW, we — as editors and fashion lovers alike — are anxious to see what will transpire. After all, February is just around the corner. Click through to read more about the potential future of fashion. (WWD)
