It's quite a treat when fashion designers give us a peek into their creative process, be it through a mood board, playlist, studio tour, or inspirational photos. We want to see it all. So, when Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi of Preen took us to Tate Modern to reveal the work of art that influenced their most recent resort collection, we were totally into it.
For the next three minutes, follow Thornton and Bregazzi as they divulge their adoration for David Hockney's A Bigger Splash. The painting is one of the English artist's more iconic works and it encapsulates that perfect, summer-defining moment of the first dive into a swimming pool. From first glance at the vibrant scene, it's obvious why the duo was inspired. The Hockney influences a number of Preen's new looks from the organic, fluid motifs to the soothing aqua blue and neon yellow hues. Fittingly, this collection includes the British label's entry into swimwear, which makes this first splash a big one.
