Lorde Covers Tears For Fears For Catching Fire, We Cry Tears Of Joy

Good Lorde, are we excited for the second installment of The Hunger Games. Especially as another song on the already imitable soundtrack surfaced this morning, straight from pop's princess to-be.
For her contribution to Catching Fire's album, Lorde took on Tears For Fears' 1985 single "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." Sure, TFF's song was topping the charts eight years before she was even born, but man does she do it justice. Sometimes covers sound like covers — an artist lends her voice but doesn't change the vibe. Then, there are artists like Lorde, who cover the lyrics but manage to completely overhaul the production, as well. Though there are only 90-seconds worth of audio here, it's clear Lorde's version is 100% her own: dark, mysterious, and a nod at the youth zeitgeist she's been capturing. It could've easily fallen somewhere in the track list of her debut LP, Pure Heroine. But, between the looming doomsday vibe and heavy horn instrumental, it's a total shoo-in for Katniss Everdeen's battle in the Quarter Quell.
