Britney Spears Feels Pressure To Be Sexy

Before there was Miley, there was Britney. And, there was the other controversial Rolling Stone cover, which featured a 17-year-old Spears in her underwear. It was a pretty hot look for the underage pop star. So, it probably comes as no surprise that Spears has always felt pressure to be sexy. In a video interview with Showbiz 411, Britney spoke candidly about the connection between being a successful artist and having a sexy persona. “I think it just goes with what I do…it’s my job to portray more of a sex kitten than what I really am at home with my kids — a monster mom.” Monster Mom — and one of the bestselling music artists of all time — Spears tells the interviewer that overall, and “especially in Los Angeles,” there is pressure to look good, “to have the right nose, the right body.”

But, the "Work B**ch" singer doesn't just have negative things to say about the pressure. She likens her sexy-stage performances to therapy, “I'm really shy in person — so when I get on stage, it's really good for me to become this different character." But, what about when she was starting out? Was posing provocatively with a Telly Tubby in any way therapeutic for young Britney Jean? It's hard to imagine how we would deal with being told our job depended on looking sexy at any age, but to be told that as a teenager? The mind boggles. It would have been great to have heard the pro sound off on some of these questions, but instead we were left with what Ms. Spears would tell her teenage self if she could travel back in time.
