Mario Testino: Legendary Photographer &... Accessories Designer?

Legendary photographer Mario Testino is becoming a designer. Yes, you read right. Today sees the launch of Mario Testino for MATE at Net-A-Porter. It's the first accessories collection the photographer has ever worked on and, of course, it's all to benefit a cause very close to his heart. The MATE Asociación is a not-for-profit cultural institution founded last year to promote the arts in the photographer's beloved birthplace of Lima, Peru.

The collection comprises of silk-blend kaftans, scarves, bags, and clutches, with jewellery designed by Vicki Beamon. The prints on the clothing and bags are taken from the photographer's exhibition, Alta Moda, which is a series of portraits of Peruvians in traditional and festive attire.

As Holli Rogers, Fashion Director at Net-a-Porter explains, "“We are huge fans of Mario’s photography and are delighted to be able to offer our customers the opportunity to wear his works of art. The colour and detail in the Peruvian costumes are unbelievable and this has paved the way for a fun range of clothing, bags, and jewellery.” What's more: By buying a piece of art fashion from this collection, you'll also be contributing to MATE's impressive cultural adgenda, as Net-A-Porter have pledged to give 20 percent of net sales profits to the intiative.
