Uh Oh! London Collections: Men Clashes With Pitti Yet Again

You know how hard it is for you to juggle all your diary commitments? Well, imagine what it must be like to do it on a much grander scale — say, managing a Fashion Week show schedule? Nightmare.
And that’s precisely why we feel for the British Fashion Council who released the spring/summer '14 show dates for the London Collections: Men. It turns out, for the second consecutive season, their show dates overlap with the Florence menswear show Pitti Uomo. This ruffled feathers last season and even caused Pitti Immagine's chief executive officer, Raffalello Napoleone, to publically speak out about the situation.

This season, there is only one day of crossover, not two, and BFC’s chief executive officer, Caroline Rush has gone on record to acknowledge the careful timetable considerations that have taken place, “Following conversations with many of the key international buyers and press who travel to Europe for menswear, these dates were recognised as the optimum solution, allowing ample time at both showcases. The crossover was discussed with the organisers of Pitti Uomo ahead of our announcement and we believe we can work together to the benefit of everyone attending London Collections: Men and Pitti.”
Phew. Looks like everything is sorted. As it should be. In this age of double- and triple-dip recessions, every designer, label, and fashion company needs the opportunity to present their collection to the editorial and buying teams that are going to make the difference. With a little diary wrangling, there can be room for everyone. Just. (Drapers)
