Dream Date: What To Eat, Wear, And See At The Wynwood Art Walk

wynwood
The Wynwood Art Walk has been described as “speed dating for art lovers.” But if someone’s already caught your eye, we think it’s a perfect venue for a first (or second, or fifteenth) date. Between the artwork (hello, 60+ galleries!), the live music, and the free wine, a romantic vibe is virtually guaranteed. This upcoming Second Saturday, April 14 is no exception. Who says a date equals dinner, a movie, and maybe some dancing? Get on your feet and shake it up a little!
Here’s our recipe for a springtime dream date in Little San Juan. Grab your sweetie, and get a little culture.

Wear
Spring has come to the Magic City, meaning we’re heading from hot to even hotter. Still, layers are key when you’re popping in and out of air-conditioned art spaces. We love a breezy little dress paired with a fashion-forward bent to keep up with the creative crowd. Dress it up with a simple, bold necklace for some subtle contrast. Stay light on your feet with a flexible, low-heeled sandal. Finally pack light with an all-in-one beauty stick for easy touch ups on the go.
Nars The Multiple in G-Spot, $39, available at Nars; Elizabeth and James Saddle Matte Onyx Necklace, $295, available at Shopbop; Diane Von Furstenberg Solange dress, $425, available at Net-A-Porter; Gorjana Chevron earrings, $58, available at Revolve; Madewell Holepunch Flat Sandal, $80, available at Madewell.

Eat
The food trucks are gone for the time being (sob!), but that just means you actually get to sit down for a meal (yay!). Wynwood boasts many terrific restos that participate in Second Saturdays. Beat the rush for an early dinner at local fave, Joey’s. The menu includes a plethora of authentic dishes (lamb chops with juniper berry reduction, for starters) but it’s hard to beat the signature pizza. Split a thin crust pie to fortify you for the evening’s stroll. Later on, take a break from gallery hopping for a pick-me-up at The Lost & Found Saloon. This little cowboy bar offers a selection of specialty beers and southwestern snacks. Plan your next move over a Sea Dog Blueberry Ale and roasted veggie salsa. Finally, it’s just not a date without dessert. (We’re pretty sure that’s a state law). For an inventive sweet treat, split one of Gigi’s Nutella Meringues. Or just get two. Or four.

See
Start with the always-exciting Bakehouse Art Complex. This regional non-profit institution attracts some of Florida’s most exciting emerging talents. April’s offering features super fresh selections by current artists of the BAC, all of whom have taken residency in the past year.
If you missed the packed opening of The Lunch Box Gallery’s iPhoneography show last month, good news! The hit photo exhibit has just been extended, so duck in for a peek this time around.
Be sure to swing by Atelier 1022’s multimedia LITERĂ event. The evening includes readings by local indie authors, eye-popping illustrations by Ellie Perla, and the Florida debut of video poet, Wolfgang Lehmann. (What? You were expecting, like, paintings?)
Wrap up the evening at the Harold Golen Gallery’s annual Tiki-themed show, Exotica in Hi-Fi. Sure to be a fun one, Harold describes the event as a mix of “mid-century exotic, Tiki – and Hawaiian music on vinyl.” As if that’s not enough, the good times continue outside the gallery. Wynwood regulars, The Gold Dust Lounge, will be playing some sweet surf rock for your listening pleasure. Who knows? Maybe there will be dancing after all.
Bakehouse Art Complex, 561 Northwest 32nd Street (between Northwest 5th and 6th Avenues); 305-576-2828.
