Ekorian's Mugie Camp (Nanyuki, Kenya)

Ekorian’s Mugie Camp, which just opened in North Kenya in late December, is a wildlife adventure in the 46,000-acre Mugie Sanctuary near Mount Kenya without having to necessarily rough it. The property offers six guest tents (each with thatched roofs and wooden deck) and central dining tent, but the real fun happens during the day and night game drives, on which you might see any of 70 species of mammals, including lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, elephant, eland, or hyena. For those who prefer domestic animals to wild beasts, you can walk with the trained bloodhounds as they get their daily exercise or take a scholarly approach by learning more about the camp’s participation in the Predator Project, which studies predatory animals like lions to determine how those animals can coexist with both human and livestock neighbors. Also, if you get a chance, ask one of the owners, Josh Perrett, about his being on only the second expedition to successfully circumnavigate Lake Turkana.
