Gardenias Inn (Tulum)

If you need to get completely off the grid for a few days, try Gardenias Inn, a tiny, three-room bed-and-breakfast oasis with no sign, just one block off the main drag in Tulum, Mexico. The rooms are affordable (from $99!) and comfy with Egyptian cotton towels, Turkish bathrobes, 500-thread count sheets, and waterfall showers, but you’ll probably spend your time exploring local Mayan ruins or on the white-sand beaches (the owners lend bikes to get there, snorkel gear, boogie boards, and beach toys for the little ones). For $120 per person extra, guests can also opt for a custom-made dinner, with local lobster, fresh-caught conch, and herbs from the owners’ organic garden potentially on the menu. Socially conscious guests can get discounts for every five hours of local volunteer work they do or by donating laptops, books, or baby clothes to the nearby elementary school.
