In case you haven't noticed, the vintage woolen blanket print (à la Pendleton) is this year's pebbled leather. We knew as soon as the uber-tready folks over at Opening Ceremony first teamed up with the old time Oregon wool masters that the brand's colorful Navajo-inspired patterns were going to garner some serious heat this winter. With our love of these cute and cozy prints on the rise (especially as temperatures drop), we nearly jumped for joy when we saw the latest winter capsule collection from local designer Shira Entis, who has revamped her signature "fleabag" with the pattern that Pendleton made famous. While her line, Fleabags, sounds more like a schoolyard insult than a bespoke brand, the designer used her love of rummaging to create a three-piece limited-edition Holiday '10 assortment of made-in-NYC, high quality carry-alls from dead-stock fabrics. Fleabag's MO is all about recycled materials and vegetable-dyed leather for a low-carbon footprint (no glue, just good old-fashioned sewing). Perfect for a long weekend at the cabin or a snowy night on the town, the unique drop-handle and coyote leather on the Original Flea cleverly combines a modern shape with classic construction. The Soda Bag, a smaller satchel, evokes David Lynch with a rich blue velvet, but dainties it up with a white over-the-shoulder strap. If you're packing as a pair, the Gun Powder— a unisex, structured duffle which features the native blanket print and a leather handle— is spacious enough to hold your thickest wool sweaters or long underwear for two. And when the slushy streets and chilly train platforms make you want to skip the city for a winter vacay, these gorgeous bags will certainly give you a stylish reason to get, what else, packing.
These limited-edition totes debut today, and we have a feeling they're going to go quickly. So, to keep you on top of your bag game, we'll letting you in on a little cheat-code—enter R29 on Fleabag's e-commerce site for a 15% discount of your purchase.
