Ever since his stint as vocalist for the alternative rock band The Servant, we knew that Dan Black was destined for super-stardom. With 2 VMA nominations just announced and a sold-out summer tour with Robyn and Kelis, we've got to give some major props to the British pop artist. While his musical flare has landed his single, "U + Me" a spot on top on the iTunes charts, (as well as our iPod's most-played lists), and the music video for Symphonies has almost 2 million views, we can't forget to mention his totally unique fashion sense. We're talking a wonky mash-up of hipster sensibilities paired with a little bit of goth and the rainy-day gloom of Black's UK hometown. The stylish beat-master took some time out from his not-to-be-missed concert tour to give us the skinny on his eclectic style.

Dan, you're well know for your killer fashion sense. How would you describe your style?
"With difficulty! I like black, I like bursts of hot color, I like interesting silhouettes, I like strong prints, I like things that are classic but a bit fucked up. I like dark but not too serious..."
What are your top three must-haves for fall, fashion-wise?
"Big boots, big scarf, big smile!" Do you think the skinny jean is out?
"I guess. Never sure what is "in" or "out". Does always seem to depend where you are standing. You should wear whatever jeans work best for whatever else you want to wear that day. If a tight jean is needed, then it's needed!"
We know dudes wanna know—if you're trying to impress a girl, what's the best look?
Wear something YOU like and feel the business in. If you feel great, you'll just be more attractive.
Do you have a favorite store in NYC?
I am still discovering New York, so I couldn't claim to have a wide knowledge of all it has to offer. But Oak is a favorite.
On the music-front, Symphonies has had almost 2 million views. How does that feel?
Feels goooood!!

What's the craziest thing a fan ever did to get your attention?
A girl in Italy claimed to have had my name tattooed on her arm in Sanskrit. I didn't know the language well enough to confirm it was actually my name though!
Who is your dream artist to collaborate with?
I'm on tour with Robyn right now. Seeing how ridiculously talented she is in the flesh, I'm definitely going to have to do my best to try to talk her into doing something with me...
Finally, what are you wearing to the VMAS?!
Well I only just found out about it last night, so no idea yet, I need to make an extra effort for this one I think...!
