Hair Apparent: Georgetown's Newest Ultra-Chic Salon Opens

Luigi-08slide

Changing hairdressers is a bit like changing boyfriends — it can be difficult, stressful, and while you're between loves, you tend to look a little bedraggled. But all that hardship isn't a good reason to stick with the same salon (or the same guy) if it's just not working — it might be time to start fresh, and lucky for you, a new hair oasis just opened in Georgetown.

Luigi Parasmo — a direct-from-Rome stylist who has worked backstage at Tory Burch, Valentino, and Versace — opened his namesake salon earlier this month, and the airy, exposed-brick space feels like a welcome respite from the bustle of Wisconsin Avenue. The salon offers a full menu of treatments, from basic cuts and color to texturizing, nail care, and bridal beauty services. So, if you're looking for greener pastures (or prettier tresses, as it were), we suggest stopping in and seeing if your new main squeeze could be of the extra-handsome Italian variety.

Where: 1510 Wisconsin Avenue NW; 202-333-2244.

Score Major Girlfriend Points With Grooming Lounge's B-Day Treat

Grooming_7_highslide

Is it just us, or has the 5-o'clock shadow started to turn into the all-day-every-day shadow for the men in our lives? It's clearly time to treat your honey to some at-home pampering time, and we suggest sending him to Grooming Lounge while the hometown brand is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. In our minds it's a win-win — he gets a super-luxurious prezzie, and you never have to suffer through another scratch-filled cuddle sesh (ouch!).

As part of their birthday blowout, the company is offering a 10% discount on all services and Grooming Lounge products at their local shops and online. If his dopp kit is already fully stocked, try sending le boyfriend to one of the two local outposts for their signature Hot Lather Shave. There, a shaving expert uses seven (that's right, seven!) steamed towels and three applications of hot lather to make your man feel as pampered as possible. If only shaving your legs could be this pleasant, right?

Where: Grooming Lounge, 1745 L Street NW; 202-466-8900; Tysons Galleria, 2001 International Drive, McLean; 703-288-0355.

Beauty Goodies & Birthday Parties: Bellacara Has Both This Weekend

bellacara-slide

Bellacara, one of our favorite haunts in Old Town, turns 12 this weekend, and the shop is celebrating in high style — think champagne, treats, and a 15% discount on all purchases.

During the event, you can get the beauty scoop from reps for Alchimie Forever, Skinceuticals, and Rilastil Skincare, plus makeup sessions with two pro artists. Bonus: If you're one of the first 100 people to spend $250 (post-discount), you'll snag one of the greatest swag bags ever — with $500 worth of free products. That's way better than cake and an off-key serenade of the birthday song, right?

When: Saturday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: Bellacara, 1000 King Street, Alexandria; 703-299-9652. Makeup applications require an appointment and a $45 fee, which is redeemable in product. Call to schedule an appointment.

Get A Ballerina Bod At Barre3, D.C.'s Newest Workout Spot

barreslide We associate January with some less-than-pleasant things: frigid weather, dwindling holiday joy, and bank-statement shock after all that generous gifting. But there's a bright side, too: A fresh start always makes us want to kick our rears into gear and get into better shape.

Fitness experts note that to really shake your body out of a pie-and-pot-roast-induced plateau, you have to surprise it with new exercises (read: you can't just zone out on the elliptical five times a week). So, we were beyond stoked when Barre3 opened shop in our neighborhood this week. The unique hybrid of ballet, Pilates and yoga is designed to shock and awe your body into a longer, leaner version of itself, with high-energy tunes driving each class. Celeb devotees of the method include Madonna (we’re pretty sure she’s 100% muscle), who regularly trains using the barre-centric repetitions.

The gorgeous new studio on the Georgetown waterfront feels like a cozy ski lodge in Aspen, with exposed wood beams and rustic décor touches — it’s worth a visit for the visuals alone. And as a perk, classes are free until Tuesday, in honor of the grand opening. They were fully booked last time we checked, but you can always show up early and hope someone doesn’t show. See you at the barre?

Where: Barre3, 1000 K Street NW; 202-450-3905.

You Need This: Pamper Yourself At The Ritz (For A Great Deal)

ROOM4slide

Pop quiz: Did you make it through the last month without a meltdown? Pat yourself on the back, sister — we did, too. And we're pretty proud of ourselves! There's a scientific reason for all those stats on family fights, relationship woes, and general personal pandemonium this time of year: The holidays tend to be majorly stressful. Thus, good behavior — or heck, just getting through December unscathed — should be rewarded.

The Spa at The Sports Club/LA Ritz Carlton, one of our fave treat-yourself spots in the city, totally sees eye to eye with us on that one. To wit, it's offering a special $99 treatment called the Heavenly Holiday Meltdown, available through tomorrow. The title alone piqued our interest, but when we learned that the 50-minute treatment entails a sweet-cream salt scrub (one of Oprah's favorite things, btw) followed by a warm caramel-shea-butter wrap and a chocolate moisturizing massage, we couldn't get ourselves out of our apartment and into a bath robe fast enough.

Where: The Spa at The Sports Club/LA, The Ritz-Carlton, 1150 22nd Street NW; 202-974-6600.

Pre-Combat (That's A Thing) Holiday Stress With These Winter Spa Treatments

Bliss_011_LowResslide

The holiday season is just beginning and already it feels like a marathon. All that shopping, partying, and carrying on can really wear a girl out, right when she needs to look her best for, well, more partying and carrying on. Luckily, Bliss Spa at the W Hotel totally understands our (admittedly privileged) struggles — and has brought out three special seasonal treatments to keep us looking and feeling our best all winter long.

Want to be at your slimmest, trimmest best in your pretty party dress? Stop in for the Party Dress Prep ($70) — a body treatment that stimulates circulation with dry brushing, and tones up any saggy sections with a generous helping of Fatgirlslim Firming Cream. You might also consider a decongesting "chestial" or "backcial" treatment if that party dress is as revealing as it is snug.

If all the late-night party-hopping starts to take a toll on your physical appearance, book yourself for the Post-Party Perk-Up ($60). This express facial targets the visible consequences of all that revelry with a powerful treatment trio of oxygen, targeted eye remedies, and, of course, lots of rehydration.

The Shopper's Delight Massage ($70) is perfect for the retail-weary — or anybody in need of a thirty-minute time-out from the holiday hustle and bustle, really. It targets the legs and head with a refreshing cucumber mask and a round of restorative kneading for those over-worked gams.

Where: Bliss Washington D.C., 515 15th Street NW; 877-862-5477 .

The Area's Secret Hair-And-Makeup Masters Go Public At This Brand-New Salon

You know that effortlessly cool girlfriend with the perfect beachy waves and the flawless cat-eye liner (the one you secretly wish could come over every morning and help you get ready)? Well, imagine a salon filled with just those types of gals, where the atmosphere is a femme take on man-cave, with a killer soundtrack on loop. And ta-da! Your fantasy is coming true.

Local besties-turned-business partners (and industry vets) Melanie Amoss and Lisa Rittiner just opened Smitten, Arlington's newest hair and beauty salon, with the aim of combining high-end beauty services with a distinctly mom-and-pop vibe.

With exposed brick interiors, crystal chandeliers, a color palette involving some hot pops of raspberry, and an endlessly looping indie playlist, the space really does feel like your girlfriend’s enviable room. And that dynamic duo you’re aching to chat all things beauty with? They’re at your get-gorgeous service. Want to learn how to apply false eyelashes? They got you. Itching to try ombre hair? Done. Craving something you can't articulate? Leave it to these ladies. We’re smitten with Smitten, to say the least, so we asked Amoss and Rittiner some of our burning questions about the salon, their fave winter hair trends, and the worst beauty faux pas they've seen. Read on to learn their pro secrets — they could potentially change your morning beauty routine forever!

Where: Smitten, 3000 Washington Boulevard, Arlington; 571-527-0200.
