Who she is: Gechi Robertson, assistant manager at New To You (108 West Broad Street, Falls Church; 703-533-1251)

How did you get the job?
"I was living in Providence, Rhode Island, and finding it very difficult to find work. I began applying to jobs in Northern Virginia, where I grew up, yet nothing I came across seemed quite worth leaving my life in Providence. Then I came across an opening for a full-time sales associate position at New To You. After looking at the store’s webpage, where I read [owner] Christina’s story, I knew I couldn’t let this opportunity go. Others might feel I say this too much, but I think I could never express it enough: I love my job, the store, and the women I work with."

Describe your personal style.
"It’s hard for me to describe, but I do know my personal style is always evolving, while staying true to my two loves: layering, and mixing prints, fabrics, and colors. I incorporate one or both [techniques] into my outfits, whether I’m in ‘90s grunge, pseudo-preppy, or post-apocalyptic grandma garb. I think the key is dressing for myself, the way I feel, and not following the rules. If I think I look awesome, maybe other people will, too."
