To put it simply, awkward hems are characterized by being not quite. Beckham's pants are cropped, but a bit higher — or is it lower? — than a usual crop. Either way, they're not quite at the ankle. Her pullover is sleeveless, but has a broad shoulder, so it's not quite a cap sleeve. But, with some clever styling, even a lady who pretty consistently wears un-awkward, feminine silhouettes can make these tricky wardrobe pieces look effortless.
While Posh's pant length could potentially shorten her frame, we love that she chose a wider-legged shape; it has movement and won't draw attention to where her hems cut off. And, the line of her pointed pump helps elongate her legs. Furthermore, we're fans of Victoria's layering: a boxy, cropped turtleneck over a loose-yet-tailored sleeve. The white shirt beneath actually bulks up her frame a bit, so that the sweater on top doesn't just hang there — you guessed it — awkwardly.
In all, this look is certainly more menswear-inspired than we're used to seeing on Victoria, but she's pulling it off with aplomb.
