Skyscraper Chic: The Chrysler Building Gives Fashion A Rise

Triangles, crowns, and spires…there's a little bit of the Chrysler building in a whole lot of fashion these days. YSL's metallic mirror skirt for spring captures the shimmering elegance of William Van Alen's brilliant interplay between glass-and-steel. Meanwhile, Anna Sui's silk Deco dress…rimmed in graphics mimicking the Chrysler's jeweled crown—makes a light but elevated statement. Other designers, like United Bamboo and Life With Bird, have borrowed the 1930 tower's signature triangles and glittering geometry in clever, architectural compositions. And to think all these gorgeous details—some originally hood ornaments and radiator caps—were once borrowed from actual Chrysler automobiles…vrrroom!
