Trend Watch: One for All
By Christene Barberich and Piera Gelardi

For Spring/Summer: Mayle, Rachel Comey, and A.P.C.
Classic denim overalls (nana and pop might have called them "coveralls") first hit the work scene in the late 1700s. But in the 21st century, the style-minded are more apt to pair them with Loeffler Randall heels than a John Deere tractor.
Shaking its working-class legacy, the new variety of overalls has a touch more refinement but with all the same spunk. Plus, the ones we covet most play up a range of attitudes: from the diehard denim purist ('70s long and lean by Karen Walker and A.P.C.) to menswear-inspired (cuffs and pinstripes by Mayle) to playground chic (shorts and prints by Rachel Comey and Alexandre Herchcovitch). We might be partial to the vintage deadstock overalls our style director, Piera, snapped up at Rue St Denis (and for just $95!), but here are some other strapping styles for spring and fall.

For fall: Lover, Tsubi, and Karen Walker.
For Spring/Summer: Mayle shorts overalls, $475, available at Mayle in New York (242 Elizabeth Street, 212-625-0406) and Satine in Los Angeles (8117 West 3rd Street, 323-655-2142); Rachel Comey linen shorts overalls, $285, available at Dernier Cri in New York (869 Washington Street, 212-242-6061) and South Willard in Los Angeles (8038 West Third Street, 323-653-6153); A.P.C. corduroy overalls, $201, available at A.P.C. For Fall/Winter: Lover is available at Elizabeth Charles in New York and Satine in Los Angeles (8117 West 3rd Street, 323-655-2142); Tsubi is available at Tsubi in New York ( 219C Mulberry Street, 212-334-4690); Karen Walker is available at TG-170 in New York (170 Ludlow Street, 170 Ludlow Street, 212-995-8660) and Creatures of Comfort in Los Angeles (7971 Melrose Avenue, 323-655-7855).
Overall improvement? You bet. From spring right into fall, this traditional onesie work-suit has undergone a beguiling makeover. Leaving its rough-and-tumble roots behind, the new crop of overalls are a true labor of love.
