Rad or Bad? The Scrunchie's Gnarly Return

rad-or-bad-return-of-the-scrunchie.jpg

We should have seen this coming after a giant scrunchie attacked Sarah Jessica Parker last year. Or maybe as early as 2007, when trendsetting starlets like Mary-Kate Olsen and Sienna Miller were spotted sporting them. But could it really be that those once ubiquitous, clunky, and amorphous coifing agents of the '90s are finally staging a serious comeback? With two new versions of the scrunchie, resplendent in all their grade-school glory, generic hipster darlings American Apparel are paving the way. While there is still some debate on the spelling (scrunchie or scrunchy), other retailers like Free People are also peddling updated versions, signaling that a resurgence could very well be on the horizon. Watch out appliquéd headwraps and plumage hairpins, the original is back!
