Down Under and Back to the '90s: New Zealand Fashion Week
Left to right: Twentysevennames, Alexandra Owen, Nom*D, AgResearch.
Looking through the coverage from Air New Zealand Fashion Week, we smell teen spirit. Kiwi designers seemed to look back a decade for inspiration for their upcoming season. Designers like Nyne, Stolen Girlfriends Club, and Twentysevennames sent models down the runway in acid wash, ripped jeans and tights, grunge-y plaids, muscle tanks and mesh. As we've seen on other catwalks around the globe, androgyny and punk/rockabilly sensibilities loomed large. Margi Robertson over at Nom*D seemed to have the'90s on the mind as well with her dark and draping collection that reeked of disaffected youth. On the other end of the spectrum, the highly anticipated show by Alexandra Owen came with unabashed romance. Structured shirt dresses and fluttering ruffles in feather light fabrics floated down the runway for those of you who who wake up at night in a cold sweat remembering the outfits you wore whilst emulating the keen fashion sense of Brenda Walsh and Kelly Taylor. Gnarly!

Scarf? Hood? Who Cares! These Ain't Your Lunchlady's Snoods
When we first heard the word snood, we thought it was some poor marketer's attempt to combine snuggly-scarf-hoods, and would join shacket, slanket, and skort in fashion's awkward S-word lexicon. It turns out that snoods have been around since the...
