Kraut Rock: Berlin Fashion Week Makes Good
With 5,000 more attendees this season than last, Berlin Fashion Week is cat-walking its way into the upper echelon of global showings. More Stockholm than Paris, the designers here have a decidedly more avant garde take on their fall/winter togs. Here are our faves of the week:
Michalsky
German-born Michael Michalsky grew up in Hamburg and moved to London to study at the London College of Fashion, where he developed his talent for making "real clothes for real people" (also his personal motto). His flair for modern flower-power prints and semi-psychedelic gowns clearly state his affinity for the Seventies.
Kilian Kerner
Unlike his retro counterparts, modern and grown up club kid Kilian Kerner opts for a more romantic quality to his line, using great lines and soft fabrics to reinvent the modern European woman.
Marcel Ostertag
Mixing feathers with pleather and MC Hammer pants never looked so fabulous. This season's Karstadt New Generation Award winner, Marcel Ostertag recalled perfectly the later styles of the glam-rock Seventies.
