It's in the Cards: Dante Sabatino, Fashion's Psychic Seer
We wondered how anyone came up with Etro's new resort collection, and Bernhard Willhelm's Queen of Hearts-esque fall/winter line seemed one card short of a full deck (if nonetheless beautiful.) But at long last we think we've figured out where these mavericks get their inspiration! According to an article by WWD, it seems that fashionheads both great and small have been receiving celestial style guidance by way of one Dante Sabatino, fashion psychic extraordinaire. Yes, that's right, a "fashion psychic."
A native of Pennsylvania and one-time cashier at Laura Ashley Home, Sabatino's break came in 1995 when he became manager of Laura Ashley's Madison Avenue store and supplemented his income by reading tarot cards, a skill he learned from his mother. Before long, employees of Victoria's Secret, Nicole Miller, and other fashion companies followed suit. "He's unbelievably accurate," jewelry designer Mark Spirito says to WWD. "He just comes out with things, I don't even have to ask any questions." Questions, he means, other than to the empyreal fashion deities themselves. Funny that they seem to have all the answers. Spooky. (WWD)
