Get a Tan! Cooler-Than-Your-Average-Khakis Catch our Eye for Summer

Denim's been done: It's been dyed, distressed, and is just plain worn out. So, who could blame us for wanting to find that fresh substitute to see us through the dog-days ahead. Enter khaki. We know it's probably not the first fabric that comes to fashion-forward minds (those Dockers ads and Blockbuster uniforms really ruined it for everyone). But cool it is! Why do you think the Brits originally enlisted it as their official uniform? Certainly not for the twill of it! We know it's a little less flash than its colored cotton-cousin, more traditional and brings back bad memories of summer camp shorts (why did we need 12 pockets?). But lately, khaki seems to have taken a sharp turn from suburbia and is staging a reinvention of near-Madonna proportions. Just check out this year's installment of Gap's Design Editions series, or better yet just take a walk outside. Because we've spotted a slew of style-stars looking pretty sweet in some fresh killer khaki confections. Convinced that it's the new neutral, we've pulled together some inspiring looks along with a few of the most twilling pieces we could get our hands on.
