Owners and designers Joey Grana and Greg Armas have become known not simply as proprietors but as fashion curators, thanks to their sharp eyes in choosing only the best pieces from their favorite collections. Though mainly comprised of women's fashions, there are notable men's pieces as well. "We have never been a trend-based boutique," says Greg. "We edit collections and buy piece by piece, not by designer."
Here, you'll discover the latest creations from Society for Rational Dress, Clu, Sonia Rykiel, Henrik Vibskov, and Mended Veil in the main (front) room alongside handbags and leather jackets from local couple Mike & Chris and shoes from LD Tuttle and Paris-based Repetto. Sticking to what Joey dubs as "directional denim," they offer Ksubi and Grey Ant, as well as Corpus Denim for guys. Joey designs the house line while Greg "throws in a men's piece here and there." Since its inception, the Scout collection has brought a sizeable amount of attention (and traffic) to the store, as it often sells out shortly after hitting the floor. Due to its enduring popularity, the signature swarming-bee print reappears in the collection from time to time. "The T-shirts and cashmere pieces seem to have established an almost cult-like following," says Greg. Dark wood floors and subdued lighting bring a warm vibe to the contemporary space. Not surprising, many shoppers tend to linger longer than they expected to. Though some vintage items are mixed in with new collections in the main room, a trip to the Vintage Library at the rear of the store--complete with gorgeous wood shelves and a rolling ladder--is a must-see. "It establishes a timeline, you can reference the new designers with the classics, or see a vintage Westwood alongside her latest designs," says Greg. "Good fashion isn't arbitrary and having a sense of its history is important to our clients." |
