Castro

Unionmade
Ground zero for menswear in S.F., Unionmade is not only known far and wide in the Bay Area, it's also been called the best menswear shop...in the world! Yup, that's right. Blame it on the high-quality threads, apothecary items, and accessories, all with a strong emphasis on heritage brands and made-in-America goods. Warning: Things this handsome don't come cheap.
Unionmade, 493 Sanchez Street (at 18th Street); 415-861-3373.

Sui Generis
Want designer garb at a fraction of the retail cost? Look no further than Sui Generis' two outposts in the Castro. What started as a go-to destination for high-end men's consignment (Dior, Gucci, you name it), has taken the women's market by storm, as well, launching a sister shop just a few doors down. At both locales, one can take in the go-for-baroque decor, sip on Sofia champagne coolies, and thumb through loads of gently worn and reasonably priced goods, all from big-name labels.
Sui Generis Ille, 2231 Market Street (between Sanchez and Noe streets); 415-437-2265; Sui Generis Illa, 2265 Market Street (between Sanchez and Noe streets); 415-437-2265.

MAAS & Stacks
This sparse and minimalist shop isn't only one of the most under-the-radar spots in the city, it's also one of the coolest. The indie-menswear haven is stuffed with buzzy, in-the-know labels like Patrik Ervell (they have an S.F. exclusive), Rachel Comey Men's, Wings + Horns, Band of Outsiders, Common Projects, and Robert Geller, plus rad foreign magazines and accessories. Invest in these high-end staples, boys, and we know you won't regret it.
MAAS & Stacks, 2128 Market Street (between Church and Sanchez streets); 415-678-5629.

Crossroads Trading Co.
If you're as crazy about thrifting as we are, then hitting up local consignment chain Crossroads is already a big part of your shopping rotation. Seriously, who can be mad at a $8.50 H&M frock, $35.50 Kate Spade pumps, or a $12.50 waxed-cotton Martin Margiela skirt (true story!)? Certainly not us. Just be prepared to comb through the plethora of items in the shop if you want to walk away with real gems. Or, just head to Crossroads' new Fillmore & 5th concept shops, which are all designer, all the time.
Crossroads, 2123 Market Street (at Church Street); 415-552-8740. Other locations listed here.
