This Is Our Jam: Tomas Barfod, “November Skies”

tomas
When we recently featured Danish producer Tomas Barfod, it was for “Broken Glass,” a track that showed off the WhoMadeWho drummer’s more ruminative, melancholy side. However, Barfod's debut LP, Salton Sea, is anything but one-note, and the follow-up single and video for “November Skies” are a considerably more upbeat experience.
Here, instead of the warped vocals of the former, Barford enlists Swedish chanteuse Nina Kinert for a huge pop chorus. And the visuals, too, are anything but subtle, with a techno-primitive Day-Glo aesthetic courtesy of The Great Nordic Swordfight. If you’re looking for a trippy Scandinavian ride through a glitchy, psychedelic landscape (and who isn’t?), then “November Skies” is your jam. But if you just want a great piece of catchy pop music, well, you may want to play the video in the background.
