This Just In: Michelle Obama to Wear Isabel Toledo at the Inauguration
Well color us surprised. Instead of wearing the odds-on favorite for her inauguration gown, the Chicago-based Maria Pinto, Ms. Obama will instead be dressed up in an Isabel Toledo gown when she holds out the Lincoln Bible for her husband's swearing in ceremony. We were a little shocked and delighted that this ultimate indie designer would be tapped for such such an honor. But, hey, it makes sense—Toledo (pictured here with her husband and creative partner, Ruben) has the kind of integrity and staying power that sets a nice tone for the event and the years ahead. She's iconoclastic, blazes her own path, and displays elegance without bowing to fads—sound like anyone you know? Now it's time to take bets on how many "Holy Toledo" headlines you'll be seeing in the next few days. (WWD)
