This Is Our Jam: Taragana Pyjarama, “Ocean”

While using repeated loops to create and prolong a specific mood isn’t a new concept for electronic music, Danish production duo Taragana Pyjarama’s “Ocean” sustains a hypnagogic vibe so pleasant that the five minute track urges repeated listening. “Ocean” sounds as if The Field or Gold Panda went on an extended vacation to a Mediterranean Club Med with clipped vocal loops and hazy atmospherics that evoke salty breezes and summer seas. The track begins and ends with the sounds of the ocean; It’s as if you’ve left the water for a walk on the beach, but a scorching sun has driven you back for another swim. It may hardly be spring, but for Taragana Pyjarama, it’s the dog days of summer.
