This Is Our Jam: Madi Diaz, "Trust Fall (Down We Go Remix by Jensen Sportag)"

2011 saw a few ultra-cool boutique record labels dominating the underground pop music scene. Small, even by indie standards, each label had impeccable curatorial acumen and a different vision for what “pop music” can be. There were Tri Angle, purveyors of murky experimentalists like Balam Acab; Sacred Bones, home to Zola Jesus; Acéphale, who released Korallreven; and Cascine, an experimental-pop label representing across L.A., New York, and London.
Among Cascine’s stable of artists, which includes Chad Valley and Pandr Eyez, is Jensen Sportag, a Nashville duo who we last featured for the excellent “Gentle Man.” With their "Down We Go Remix" of fellow Nashville artist Madi Diaz, Jensen Sportag reimagine her folk-pop sound as a light-as-air piece of ‘80s electro. Think: Saint Etienne with a sprinkle of new jack swing, and you won’t be far off. As the year comes to a close, it’s a nice feather in the cap for both Jensen Sportag and Cascine. Can’t wait to hear more in 2012.
