This Is Our Jam: Atlas Sound, “Modern Aquatic Nightsongs”

modern
Atlas Sound’s “Modern Aquatic Nightsongs,” the latest single from the highly anticipated Parallax, is a warped Bossa Nova lament that teems with the mouldering ghosts of long-dead romances. The song sounds like it’s been recorded in a forgotten lounge at the bottom of the sea, with Bradford Cox’ slippery voice cutting through the depths to ask the occasional foreboding question (“Is your love worth the nausea it could bring?”). While the lyrics may be abstract, the overall feeling is not; “Modern Aquatic Nightsongs” is about romance, love, lust and whether it’s all worthwhile. (Gorilla vs Bear)
