Laser Tag: Three Designers Giving Jewelry Some Sharp Cuts

Perhaps a departure from jewelry's more granny-feminine course of the past few years, we're discovering more and more designers giving their pieces a sharper edge. Such is the case with these three designers, each of whom has employed a laser-like cut in their works. Heather Kosch grabbed our attention a few years ago when she debuted her beautifully sculpted rosewood rings, but now she's delivering elegantly cut wooden bangles, too. Steven Shein crafts a more geometric effect with his partially colored double-sided bangle. And most recently, designer Laura Yu launched her Prismera "Gala" collection in time for holiday—a pretty mixed metal assortment that pairs modernist flower shapes with precious gems like black spinels. Of course, it would be wrong not to mention the theme here seems reminiscent of British designer Lara Bohinc's earliest work. She's now on to much more opulent fine jewels, but those early laser-cut pieces were definitely ahead of their time.
