Flavor Pill: With Histoires de Parfums, The Past Never Smelled So Good!

perfumes-1210.jpgColette, Mata-Hari, Le Marquis de Sade--it's these notorious figures in history, as well as the distinctive essences of their times that serve as inspiration for perfumer Gérald Ghislain's boutique line of fragrance, Histoires de Parfums. Each bottle is cleverly fashioned like a book to reveal the "story" of a scent through its varied notes. In 1725 (a scent inspired by Casanova), amber fern mingles with warm woods and crisp lemon; 1873, which reflects the sensuality of Colette, yields a careful blending of white flower blossoms and sparkling tangerine. Ghislain, a former chef, admits that each scent is a unique chemistry experiment in capturing a certain time or tale to perfection. In his latest tome, 1969, he's concocted a potion packed with spices to mimic that wildly sexy year. Lucky for us, the line will soon be available in New York at Oak in January—smells like the perfect start to a history-making new year.
