Cut and Paste: Collage Art from No. 6

jimdrainbook1.jpgGiven that most downtown boutiques and shops all offer varying versions of the same coffee-table books and Christofle candlesticks, one almost wishes for a brick to hit you upside the head—you know, just to add some spontaneity. Well, watch your noggin, because molto freddo Little Italy shop No. 6 has pitched up another hard-hitting title from their side job: publishing. Kautzchensteig 10 is the product of artist Jim Drain (of Rhode Island noise band and art collective Forcefield), Drain spent two months collecting old magazines and new catalogs on the outskirts of Berlin creating sinisterly satisfying collages skewering consumer culture. Somehow, a collagist who performs in a noise band dressed in brightly-colored, self-designed, full-body knitwear seems a perfect match for No. 6.
