All Aboard!: Comfort Station's Stormy Fall Look

An upside down stag. A porcelain horse. A vintage book. These are just some of the out-of-the-ordinary objects that inspire jewelry designer Amy Anderson, creator of Comfort Station. Seeking to use images of her homeland, Britain, while subverting them in a cheeky and modern way, Anderson has mastered a profession that she didn't quite plan.

Starting out as a sculptor, photographer, and video installation artist, Anderson began making her Comfort Station jewelry line to fund her various art projects. Surprise, surprise, the little profit maker became so successful that Anderson just kept on rolling. She's even created her own store on London's famed Brick Lane, filled with jewelry made of intricate wood cuts and precious stones, to cater to her growing fan club. Anderson's new fall collection is a testament to her skill—using a mix of delicate and chunky chains as well as enchanting equestrian and hunting-themed pendants, she's created pieces that are haunting and charming all at once. Touched with a tinge of goth, the porcelain, crystal, and silver charms in Anderson's jewelry are perfect for stormy fall days. A porcelain horse head is brushed with an intricate toile pattern, and a tiny silver book pendant reveals miniature knot-tying instructions. A porcelain and crystal necklace looks like it was made from the remnants of an old chandelier. Most entrancing, however, is a delicate gold chain necklace from which Anderson has suspended an inverted stag. A little bit humorous, a little bit dark, it strikes the perfect balance. When the darker autumn weather comes our way, this little pendant is sure to bring a touch of sparkle to any gray day. Now that's a comforting thought.
