While the Ed Hardy name may be synonymous with tacky Christian Audigier goods these days, the original Ed Hardy was a world-famous ink artist whose brand of Asian influenced work on skin became a global phenomenon. The new documentary, Tattoo the World , which is screening at the Hammer Museum in Westwood, aims to remind viewers that Hardy, who decided at age 10 that he wanted to be a tattoo artist, combined a classical arts education with block printmaking techniques and sophisticated typography to permanently revolutionize the culture of tattooing.
