As an MTV employee, you must have gotten to meet every star in the world. Do you have a favorite? A cool story to share?
"I'm a fan first, so each experience is exciting. The day it’s no longer fun and fulfilling is the day I move on.
Not to plug my wares, but I host and produce two web shows, First Date and BFF's in which I interview up-and-coming acts and talent we are currently obsessing over. Every episode I've shot has been rewarding and each act has been my favorite — I really can't pick one.
As far as cool stories…I don’t really have a stock answer, because there are so many. A standout may be when I saw Kobayashi down approximately a billion slices of pizza in a minute flat. It was meant to be an 'endurance test' during a shoot with Danny McBride. One of my co-workers said that there should’ve been a camera on my reaction to his pizza eating — it was a mixture of fear, sadness, admiration… there were a lot of emotions going on."
Tell us what your average day is like. What do you find yourself looking forward to?
"My average day varies, as I shoot, produce, edit, and am talent on my shows — most producers around here are versed in the first three. But it’s all built around the same idea of working together to pitch, produce, or write to segments for our website or for air.
I find myself looking forward to First Date or BFF’s shoot dates, as I get to do really fun stuff with really cool acts – I’ve gone bowling with Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y, ate in Chinatown with Lil B, and played mini golf with the cast of Workaholics. I still can’t believe that it’s a part of my job.
The department as a whole definitely looks forward to Movie Awards and VMAs. We produce the live pre-shows and hundreds of news hits in the lead-up to each, and it’s like summer camp. We’re all in the same hotel and the same production office, working towards the goal of making great content. I think we all live for creating live TV; it goes by so quickly, but the sense of accomplishment when the show wraps is unlike anything else. There are always a lot of handshakes and high-fives."
