Does This Start-Up Stack Up? Clipping Is The New Pinning On Swirl

swirl
We all have them. They linger on our laptops, shiny temptresses of fashion that beg us to treat ourselves to a little retail therapy. We may dub them "One Day..." or "MUST. HAVE." Whatever you've called it, you know you've got at least one Pinterest board, text document, or bookmarks folder full of clothing, jewelry, shoes, and handbags you need want, but haven't had the wherewithal to track down and actually purchase. Luckily, there is help on the horizon.
Swirl is a new mobile app for those who have an ever-growing shopping list, or who simply need a place to organize their most wanted selects. Similar to Pinterest, you can "clip" any item to your very own collection for future purchase. But, the best part? Swirl will tell you when it's on sale. By uploading the free app to your phone, Swirl will let you know the nearest store where your product is available. Not ready to spend? Send your collections to your beau, your bestie, or your mom in a "hint-hint-nudge-nudge" move.

Even if you're not looking for anything in particular, Swirl lets you e-window shop fellow app users' picks and notify you of any special offers based on the brands you love. (You know, so you don't buy those shoes at Bloomingdale's only to see them heavily discounted 20 blocks away.)
The question still remains as to whether Swirl will help or hurt our wallets. Will we go into stores set on buying only what we've been notified is on sale, avoiding all impulse purchases? Or, will we only feed our shopping addiction by stalking the virtual sale racks? Is this a better version of Lyst? Check out this mobile personal-shopping assistant yourself, and let us know what you think. Warning: We doubt it will help you carry all those bags home.
