Here’s What Those Sudden Body Zaps, Pangs, & Jolts Mean

Chances are at some point you've felt a weird, sudden pain. Most of us have had one a time or two in our lives. Although they can be startling, they usually go away as quickly as they come — but what the heck are they and when do you need to be worried?
Sudden pain can mean different things when they happen in different places. For instance, if you get a stabbing headache, but then it goes away, there's probably nothing to worry about. Muscle twitches are also usually harmless, unless they come with weakness or numbness, but pay attention to any sharp pains in your face — especially if it feels worse with pressure in the cheek or jaw. Facial pain could be a sign of a neurological condition called trigeminal neuralgia, which is often helped with medication.
