Laurene Powell Jobs, co-founder and president of the Board of College Track
Net Worth: $9 Billion
How She Got To Where She Is: Her fortune may come from controlling the living trusts under the name of her late husband, Apple founder Steve Jobs, but Laurene Powell is quite the luminary herself. With an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Laurene has co-founded a natural foods company, served on the board of directors for Achieva, a company that makes online studying tools, and was even appointed to the White House Council for Community Solutions by president Barack Obama.
Notable Accomplishments: As co-founder of College Track, a nonprofit based in San Francisco that aims to increase the number of high school graduates and college attendees from low-income families, Laurene Powell has done a significant job of increasing graduation rates for first-generation college students who have the odds working against them.
And That's Not All... She sits on seven different organizations' Board of Directors, including Teach for America and the New Schools Venture Fund, and also is on the advisory board for the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Whew!
Key to Success: Be the change you wish to see in the world. Laurene's philanthropic efforts change the lives of others every single day, but it's not without the investment of a lot of hard work and a ton of time. If you think you've got a way to change what's wrong, take some inspiration from that Gandhi quote and take a shot at making it right.
