Time to Pretend: Tribal Makeup Hits the Streets

beautytrend_0808_1.jpg

A Gawker Stalker sighting reported Mary-Kate Olsen as "beautiful, despite the weird under-eye face paint (is tribal makeup in? or looking like a football player?)." The vision reminded us when we saw Lesley Arfin DJing at Purple Magazine's party during last season's fashion week, wearing similarly awesome under eye paint. Since then, we've been noticing statement eye makeup as the ubiquitous touch to going-out wear. Not sure if you can pull it off? Check out Blackbook's Holly GoNightly's take on the trend, and the type of gal who can sport the bold look successfully. A little bit Bowie, a little bit Balenciaga F/W 2008, we've seen it from London to LA with paints above the eye, below; glittery, colorful, or minimalist. Either way, we see it as a solution to the recession worries—if its time to cut back on the shopping, then we must makeup the excess.
