Independence Day: Stars, Stripes, and Style Abroad

starsstripes_streetfashion.jpg

With the Fourth of July around the corner, it's no surprise to see plenty of Americana in the air. But who would of thought it'd be making such a splash overseas? While each of these photos follow the stars and/or stripes motif, there seems to be an additional United States historical or cultural reference within each look. A flag-printed handkerchief is worn around the neck like a wild west cowboy. A woman in a striped dress wears her hair in a poof reminiscent of the turn of the twentieth century ideal, the Gibson Girl. A popping Bernhard Wilhelm dress complete with Clark Kent glasses is Superheroes-exhibit worthy. And a woman in a sparkly cap and star-printed romper looks ready to tap dance into some prohibition-era speakeasy. They may not have the holiday, but they've certainly got their share of firecrackers in street fashion.
