Believing that weddings ought not bring out the bridezilla in each of us, Stone Fox Bride — a high-fashion boutique in Manhattan — was founded on the principle that planning a wedding is also a process of self-discovery. Molly Guy, creative director at SFB, is our source for the nontraditional bride. This article was originally published on Oct 21, 2013.

Our first interaction was me not responding to an email. I was a part of an improv group at the University of Michigan, and Mike emailed me asking all these questions about joining. And, I never responded. Whoops. He still came to the audition. And, I was like, 'Oh, no child. I like that blonde one.' He is funny and nice all the time. I want a little bit of that in my life. I totally laid it all on the line two years into our friendship. I was like, “Do you want to be a real person with me?” He said yes. I’m so glad I got real with him. We watched "Mr. Show” for a while, meaning he would come over to my apartment and we would watch sketch comedy and try to work up the courage to touch each other. We were friends for so long, busting out of that friend zone stuff was hard. Our first "date" was at an Indian restaurant just off campus. He knocked over the "Please Wait To Be Seated" sign.

We went out to dinner, and then went to a park, where we were swinging on a swing set. I was like, “I want to say something.” And he responded, “I love you.” BOOM. Take that. Real live rom-com stuff. We had this childish plan to break up after college. I was going to like “experience the world” or something. Then we realized that we could totally do that with each other. I’ve been in India when he’s been in Chicago, and I feel just as much in love with him as I do in our apartment. Our relationship has never been anything that holds me back, but the exact opposite. Mike lifts me up. He makes me smarter, funnier and kinder. We dated eight years before we had the big ole’ party. But I’ve known he was my perfect person for a long time.
