After a week, life is starting to return to normal in some of the less-affected areas. Lines for gas can still stretch for two miles, as they did on Sunday in Westerleigh, but power is back and stores are again stocked. The southern and eastern shores of the island are still struggling, however. The Department of Sanitation, one of the unsung heroes of the disaster, has been hauling out trucks loaded with the discarded fragments of people’s lives…but there is still plenty to do.
