By Wednesday, reports out of Staten Island were still few and far between, and the people I spoke to back in New York were just as in the dark. Without power, there was no way to fire up the family computer and get online, there was no TV, and many local radio stations were out of service. Even cell phone service became a hard to come by commodity, as battery backups at towers in the area were run dry.
