"The first thing I ever splurged on was my first pair of black, stiletto pumps. I was probably about 16 years old, and these BCBG heels were not just a treat, they were a rite of passage. I was convinced they were the classic pair of shoes that every woman should own (which is still true, expect I would probably never pick out the same pair today), so I was willing to spend the $100 or so — a pretty hefty amount to shell out, considering I didn't really have anywhere to wear them."
