Where To Shop Local In L.A. This Holiday Season

small-business-saturday-600
While most will be nursing their sore Black Friday feet, we'll be strapping on our most comfortable kicks and hitting up our fave shops. Relatively new to the scene, Small Business Saturday is a chance for the local community to get together and encourage shoppers to spend their hard-earned pennies at one-of-a-kind shops. Here, we've mapped out six that should that totally put those department stores to shame, and prove that great things really do come in small packages!

TenOverSix
Most mom and pop stores would be overshadowed by the likes of Alexander McQueen and Herve Leger, but not TenOverSix! This Melrose must-hit is not only one of the most expertly curated boutiques in all of Lala, it's also owned by Kristin Lee and Brady Cunningham, two of the most stylish broads this city has to offer.

Where: 8425 Melrose Avenue (at North Croft Avenue); 323-330-9355.

American Rag Cie
We have yet to experience anything like American Rag Cie. Although incredibly large, the store manages to fill every nook and cranny with some of L.A.'s best offerings. And, if you haven't made your way to the denim selection, you've been missing out! We're like kids in a candy store every time — it's seriously one of the sweetest places on earth.

Where: 160 South La Brea Avenue (between West 1st and West 2nd streets), 323-935-3154.

Blackmarket
What began as a vintage shop quickly evolved into a perfect blend of art, culture, design, and fashion. And, it's worth mentioning that we want each and every employee to become our BFF — not only are they the coolest cats around, but they've got insane style to boot. So, come to Blackmarket for the wide selection of stuff, stick around for the staff!

Where: 2023 Sawtelle Boulevard (between La Grange and Mississippi avenues); 310-966-1555.

Beckley
Yes, this is the second time this week we've written about Beckley, but can you blame us? The 2.0 version of the OG spot carries everything from A.L.C. to VPL. But, it's the in-house line Beckley by Melissa that's going to be in regular rotation — we'd especially love to wear this number through winter and right into spring.

Where: 8128 West Third Street (between South La Jolla Avenue and South Crescent Heights Boulevard); 310-652-3500.

Library
We've been geeking out over Library since the Mid-Wilshire shop opened it's giant wooden doors. If the old-timey books and cash register don't win your heart, the merch definitely will. While Library carries common brands such as Rag & Bone and Helmut Lang, it's the eye of Mike Mizrahi, the shop's founder, that turned this pop up into a real deal retail destination. Make sure to watch where you step — you'll be glad you did!

Where: 121 1/2 North Larchmont Boulevard (near West 1st Street); 323-463-4485.

Lake
Every time we visit Lake, it's like we're swimming in a sea of pure awesomeness. From Clare Vivier to Current/Elliott, this Eastside spot is stocked with some of L.A.'s most talented designers and artists. Don't forget to mention "giving thanks," at the register this weekend for an additional 10% off your entire purchase.

Where: 1618 1/2 Silverlake Boulevard (between Effie Street and Berkeley Avenue); 323-664-6522.
