Shops We Love: Des Kohan
Designer Desiree Kohan's alluring outpost is a refreshing switch from the typical So-Cal fashion fare. Her eponymous clothing collection (which is exclusive to the boutique) embodies her own elegantly restrained style, as do the other clothing designers featured at her beguiling boutique. With a range of Hussein Chalayan, Viktor & Rolf, and other European labels, Kohan likes to focus on lines that are destined to become the new classics. She describes it as "romantic clothing with a modern edge." Other notable names at this elegant locale include Vena Cava, Giulia Piersanti, and New York-based label Flowers of Romance. "If I don't love something, I don't bring it," Desiree says.

Wall-to-wall windows drench the space in light and illuminate the selection of offerings on hand. There is no denim—a first in L.A.—but there are T-shirts and camis from Splendid, and knit selections from Ella Moss. Best of all Kohan stocks special editions from these lines with different colors and fabrics made especially for the store. The proprietor's house line focuses on dresses in versatile, easy-to-wear styles and a collection of belts in black and cognac leather. "I'm in the store all the time, so I know what women want," she says.
In addition to clothing, Des Kohan stocks new and vintage jewelry, luxe handbags from L.A. designer Laurence, shoes from Carmen Ho, as well as vintage engravings and home décor items. "We have a lot of vintage home accessories, including items that are under $50," says Desiree. "I like to makes sure there are a range of things that aren't always easily available."
Des Kohan, 671 Cloverdale Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036, 323-857-0200, www.deskohan.com
