On Your Left: More L.A. Shopping To Love!
Like we said last week, L.A. retail is a fickle beast. Unlike the crowded confines of New York, one can travel for miles before finding a decent place to pull over and grab some threads. Again, we've harvested some fresh Angelino fruit from the grapevine, so pull out those GPS systems and get mapping.
First off, Apartment Number 9,one of the many shops we love, has brought its carefully edited collection of menswear (Earnest Sewn, Rogan, Trovata, etc.) to a second store at Little Santa Monica Boulevard in Beverly Hills—a rarer air than their first location in Santa Monica, but no less smart and sharp. Resurrection L.A. has begun a month-long retrospective of Pierre Cardin's work from the '60s and '70s. As Resurrection quoted Cardin, "The dresses I prefer are those I invent for a life that does not exist yet&mash;the world of tomorrow." Given that most of the pieces are thirtysomething, we can't tell if the dresses are still set for the world of tomorrow…or today…or yesterday's tomorrow…or…look, just go okay? Finally, our good friend Steven Alan continues to expand his plaid and sweater empire with a new location in Venice Beach. Expect to see more of his elegantly simple workwear and casuals paired with his growing selection of higher-end pieces at his new (near) beach house. Also, keep an eye out for our store-opening party report. It's a scorcher. Steven Alan, 1601 Abbot Kinney Boulevard, Venice, 310-452-3413; www.stevenalan.com
