Did I ever tell you that my birthday and Hayden’s birthday are one week apart? Hers comes before mine, so for the past three years, I’ve gotten so consumed about planning her birthday that I tend to forget my own. In a way, I’m okay with that. I’ve always been a bit of a party-pooper when it comes to my own birthday. And, last weekend, when I turned 35, I wasn’t going to do anything at all.

My husband, George, was a little disappointed to hear that. He said sometimes your birthday is not just about yourself, it’s about letting other people who loves you to celebrate with you. How would you feel if Hayden and Hadley didn’t want to celebrate their birthdays with you? Okay, I guess he has a point. I would feel really hurt. So, last weekend, I did something I’ve never done before, I threw myself a birthday tea party!
Holiday. Even the word makes us want to do a little in-seat dance. You book the time off work, you block it off in your diary, you book an ace hotel, and you go on to tell freaking everyone about it. Hotels, after all, have a way of making or breaking a holiday, and there’s nothing more disappointing than arriving at read
