Shimmer eyeshadow can be both dramatic and delicate — it all depends on the application. For a more demure look, Daoud says to sweep shadow onto your eyelids to create a wash of shiny color. "A dab on the eyes is all you need to open up and brighten your entire face," she says. Keep the color just on your lids — don't extend it to your browbone. Instead apply a taupe matte shadow into your crease and line lids with black liquid liner.

For a bolder look, like the one seen here at the 3.1 Phillip Lim fall '11 show, use a wet metallic shimmer shadow or shimmer eyeliner to create a geometric shape that extends across the crease of the eye. Add tons of mascara for intensity, but keep the rest of your lid bare, to accentuate the edgy, graphic look. "This is a great modern twist to classic eyeliner that will keep you current and edgy," says Daoud.
