Style Addict: The Druggie Look of "Christiane F."

Christiane F. is a true story of the massive drug scene in 1970's Berlin starring Natja Brunckhorst as a 13-year-old junkie hooker. Hanging out with the infamous Bahnhof Zoo gang and running through malls to a David Bowie soundtrack in her tight denims, silky middle-parted hair and glossy lips, the underage heroine cuts a lean figure that would make any self-respecting model/rocker/hipster envious.
Pre-addiction, Christiane carries her sneakers in a plastic bag and pairs her mothers stilettos with striped socks, a satin bomber jacket and skin tight denim jeans as she totters the streets, frequenting a West Berlin train station full of underage prostitutes. Picking up some bad habits at the sordid "Sound" discoteque in a white shirt and black vest, while celebrating her 14th birthday with heroin and birthday cake in a cropped denim jacket, tan sweater and leather slanted-heel boots, Christiane unfortunately combines her awesome style with drugs, desolation, and a gross complexion.
Interestingly, when Christiane's autobiography Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo was released in 1979, she became a teenage cult figure for her style rather than the gloomy anti-drug message. Talk about your "heroin chic".
To get all the style of Christiane F. without all the nasty side effects, just say "no" to the junk and spend your money on a lean look instead. Start with with the Acne denim tube jean, the Carlos Falchi small silver satchel, a pair of Leo button booties from Ash, all available at Oak. Wear a thin, black vintage scarf and the Replicant bomber jacket from Rag & Bone available from La Garçonne, with the black denim Altamont vest and white sheer v-neck T-shirt by BDG both from Urban Outfitters. Throw on some Hansel from Basel striped socks with a pair of Slow and Steady Wins the Race canvas high heels available at Creatures of Comfort and catch the stylishly classic film Puzzle of a Downfall Child Wednesday, September 10 at 9:15 at Anthology Film Archives in New York. Oh, and try to stay off the hard stuff.
