On Set Romance: The Style of "Day for Night"

In François Truffaut's 1973 French New Wave "film about film making" Day For Night, Nike Arrighi plays Odile the makeup artist on a rambling film production. Surrounded by complicated personal crises both on and off set, Odile remains professionally cool-headed in her sapient accessorizing and cute smock dress.
In this parallel reality of secret trysts and love triangles, Odile expertly pairs bright blue tights with her patterned smock dress for some personal pizazz whilst consoling a frail, adulterous Hollywood starlet, a boozily aging star and a neurotic, pampered male lead. Unperturbed by the onset of chilly weather, Odile simply wears a turtleneck sweater under her dress and keeps her favored look going for the new climate. As a narcissistic maelstrom ensues, Odile takes care of business with her hair in a cutely nonchalant top-knot and eventually rides off on the back of a motorcycle with a beau, leaving the drama behind.
If you experience melodramatic complications stemming from climate change, wear some colored tights and warm sweaters underneath your favorite spring dresses in Odile's style. Try Neurotica's black cloud print thigh-highs, long plain Karen Walker socks, or colorful opaque tights from Urban Outfitters. For under dress sweaters we love the envelope-neck pullover by Opening Ceremony, the cape cowl-neck top by Laurie B from Pixie Market and Clu's long sleeve henley. For footwear mix in colored shoes or leather boots like Taskkent's purple Collette ankle bootie, Rachel Comey's rainer cutout heels, Charlotte Ronson's shearling bootie, or Devotte I Know boots. Whatever you do, try to steer clear of actors—they're only trouble.
